Simplicity itself – A notebook purely for writing.
When you “note” something, you are actively perceiving or noticing certain features.
In the course of their daily lives people note their perceptions in words, diagrams or pictures. A notebook is the medium that people use to record their perceptions, and our hope is that it is always close at hand for the user to open and write in.
When you write something down, you want to record and maintain the feeling of the moment. That is why our notebooks are simplicity itself.
MD Notebooks are available in three page formats – blank, ruled lines and grid.
The blank notebook is the ideal format for writing down ideas freely as they come to you, or even using a double page as a canvas for your thoughts.
The ruled lines format provides a bold centerline so that the upper and lower pages can be used separately. Split a single page into two or a double page into four to arrange your notebook how you like, for writing memos, keeping a diary, or inserting dates for use as an appointment book.
The grid format features a 5mm square grid based on old Japanese manuscript paper. The grid is characterized by the small gaps between the squares. There is also a mark every five or ten squares to make counting characters even easier. The light blue grid lines do not distract from your writing or sketches.
MD Notebooks are available in a variety of sizes, similar to the size of books.
We offer notebooks in A6, B6, A5 (hardcover) and A4 (magazine) sizes. When the pages are full, you will have created your own one-of-a-kind book that you can place on a shelf next to your other favorite books.
All MD Notebooks come with index label stickers designed to match the simple and pure cover, which is bound only with a cheesecloth mesh tape.
On two stickers we have printed the words IDEA and DIARY, which are most often used. The remaining stickers are left blank for you to use yourself. The stickers can be used to securely fix the bookmark string in the upper corner of the notebook.
For MD Notebooks we use two kinds of paper: MD Cream and MD Cotton.
When we started making MD Paper in the 1960s, we initially only provided white paper. This paper is still used in popular long-selling Midori products such as our Diary, Daily Diary and Diamond Memo. When we started making MD Paper in the 1960s, we initially only provided white paper. MD Cream was first created in 2006. The warm color that is easy on the eye is ideally suited to writing with a fountain pen. This paper is designed to provide a fine balance between a slight catch on the paper when writing and a smooth writing feel. With this paper, you can enjoy the sensation of writing.
MD Cotton was newly developed in 2013. It is a soft and gentle paper that contains 20% cotton pulp. Cotton paper has always had outstanding durability and keeps exceptionally well. From ages past, it has been used in Europe for important and official documents, known as paper of high quality. The fibers are finer and longer than pulp, meaning that it has a luxurious feel and smoothness that give it an airily soft texture.
MD Cotton has a soft whiteness just like cotton that is well-suited both to fountain pens and colored pencils. We recommend this notebook as a sketchbook and therefore provide it only in a blank format.
